“It really wasn’t me. I’d like to say it was me and only me, but it wasn’t. it was really the players first and the assistant coaches next.” “I think they just played with more verve or enthusiasm, whatever you want to call it,” Phillips said. “I just think they made up their minds they weren’t going to be denied in this ballgame, and they were going to play the way they felt like they could play.”
“I don’t know,” Phillips said. “We’ll have to discuss all that. He really hasn’t taken any snaps with the first team.”
“Wade Phillips did his job today,” said Jerry, who praised Phillips “gutsy” calls and shrewd psychological moves. “Today was a big victory for this team. It gives us a chance to stay in the hunt of where we want to be at the end of the year.”
The Cowboys barely won by the way

Cowboys: Despite a 17-7 record in Dallas, Phillips oversees a vastly overrated team (especially on defense) for an owner who thinks he’s in a fantasy league. Phillips might survive with at least one playoff win, but anything less opens the door for Jason Garrett
Owner Jerry Jones had heard all the talk about who is going to call defensive signals Sunday. There are reports that Phillips has taken over play-calling duties from coordinator Brian Stewart. Those inside the Cowboys insist nothing has changed, but Phillips will be more involved.
Jones said on his weekly radio show Friday on KTCK/1310 AM that it doesn’t matter who calls the plays, Phillips is accountable for the performance on defense.
“I’m hearing a lot about who calls what,” Jones said. “That’s so overrated. You really will never get real good answers in that area, if you really think about it. The facts are the one that makes the final decision, you ultimately say makes the call, whether he utters a word or not. In this particular case, our head coach Wade Phillips does make, either by acquiescence or by direction, all decisions relative to what we’re doing on the defensive side of the ball.”
